BRAZIL IN GREAT VILLAGE

This Event was held Saturday October 2nd in Great Village

♦Capoeira workshop:  Join the instructors from Dende do Recife Halifax to learn this traditional African-Brazilian dance/martial art.
♦Reading by Truro author and raconteur Paul Zann: For children of all ages.

♦Walking Tour of Elizabeth Bishop’s Great Village.

♦Brazilian Lunch: The first taste of Brazil with traditional soups, breads and sweets, sponsored by the Great Village Community Association.

♦"Black Beans & Diamonds’: A Concert of poetry and music.” Poet John Barnstead and the musicians of Cocada (Joanne Hatfield, Jef Wirchenko and Dawn Hatfield), present a tribute to Bishop’s Brazilian years. Hosted by CBC-Radio 1 broadcaster Carmen Klassen. Concert will be followed by a chat between Ms Klassen and the performers.

♦Brazilian Flavours Community Supper and Talk by Joy Snihur Wyatt Laking : Join the Friends of St. James for a meal of traditional Brazilian food, with an after supper presentation, “Our travels in Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Bolivia in 2009,” by Joy Laking and Jim Wyatt. Sponsored by the Friends of St. James Church.

♦Art Display: The children of the Great Village School will display their artwork and writing about Elizabeth Bishop and Brazil at St. James United Church during the day and at the Great Village Legion during the evening.
